KENOSHA, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin–Parkside women's track and field team opened the indoor season in strong fashion on Saturday, finishing first overall among eight teams at the Carthage Firebird First Invite.
The Rangers were led on the track by Anna Snorek, who captured individual victories in both the 200 meters (26.75) and 400 meters (1:00.57). Snorek also anchored Parkside's winning 4x400 relay, teaming with Jasmine Sieben, Hannah Downs, Chloe Miller, and Kylie Kwiatkowski to post a time of 4:17.48.
In the sprints, Rachel Blaskowski placed second overall in the 55 meters, clocking a 7.41 in the finals after running 7.35 in the preliminaries. Savannah Torrence (5th, 28.24) and Lauren Wiitanen (9th, 28.69) each earned top-ten finishes in the 200 meters.
Parkside continued its success in the hurdles, as Dani Riemer won the 55 hurdles with a time of 8.74, while Miranda Winkler finished close behind in second at 8.75. Riemer also claimed first place in the long jump, posting a mark of 5.48 meters (17' 11.75"), while Lainey Fredrick (3rd), Analisia Melendez (4th), Avah Banks (5th), and Jazai Lopez (8th) all recorded top-ten finishes in the event.
In the middle distances, Chloe Miller placed third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:32.07, while Hannah Downs followed in fourth at 2:42.62. Tempi Zondag earned a victory in the mile, crossing the line in 5:36.32.
The Rangers also dominated the field events. Nailah Taylor won the high jump after clearing 1.65 meters (5' 5"), and Kalista Butkiewicz captured first place in the pole vault with a mark of 3.25 meters (10' 8").
In the horizontal jumps, Essence Burrows won the triple jump with a leap of 11.00 meters (36' 1.25"), while Avah Banks finished second and Miranda Winkler placed third. Analisia Melendez and Jazai Lopez rounded out top-six finishes in the event.
Parkside saw multiple top-ten performances in the throws as well. Hannah Vlies placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 11.79 meters (38' 8.25"), followed closely by Destiny Duesterbeck in fifth. In the weight throw, Brooke Mader finished fourth, Vlies placed sixth, and Shelby Hanshaw recorded a seventh-place finish.
The Rangers will return to action next weekend when they compete at the UW-Whitewater Invite on January 24.
