KENOSHA, WIS. – Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball opened Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play in dominant fashion Thursday night, sweeping Roosevelt 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-9) inside De Simone Arena. The Rangers remain perfect on the season at 8-0 overall and 1-0 in league play, while the Lakers fall to 1-8 (0-1 GLIAC).
The Rangers came out strong, hitting .500 in the opening frame as
Ava Irvin and
Sam Fisch set the tone early while setter
Lucy Russ spread the offense and the defense held Roosevelt to just .071 hitting in a 25-15 win. The second set was the most competitive, with the Lakers finding some rhythm, but Parkside answered with key swings from Irvin, three big blocks at the net, and steady defense from
Natalie Harris to pull away late, 25-21. The Rangers then closed the match in dominant fashion, racing to an early lead and overwhelming Roosevelt with aggressive serving and efficient attacking, racking up three service aces, posting a 70% sideout rate, and holding the Lakers to -.056 hitting in a 25-9 finish.
Ava Irvin led the Rangers with a match-high 14 kills on .364 hitting while adding two service aces and eight digs, setting the tone offensively all night.
Sam Fisch followed with nine kills and a team-best four blocks, while middle hitter
Maia Olson was efficient with six kills on .400 hitting.
Mariena Coon also provided a spark, hitting .667 with four kills. Setter
Lucy Russ directed the attack with 38 assists and chipped in five digs, and libero
Natalie Harris anchored the defense with a match-high 16 digs to go along with a service ace.
