Parkside Splits Twin Bill, Earns Critical Victory over SVSU

KENOSHA, Wis. – Parkside and Saginaw Valley State split a doubleheader Saturday at Historic Simmons Field. After a nail-biting 4-2 victory for the Cardinals in Game One, the Rangers bounced back behind a masterclass on the mound from Noah Gerritson, earning a 3-0 win in the nightcap.

GAME ONE
The Rangers battled all game but couldn't overcome a few key innings from the visiting Cardinals. After three scoreless frames to start, Parkside responded immediately when Saginaw Valley struck for three runs in the fourth. Fueled by disciplined at-bats and patient baserunning, the Rangers quickly loaded the bases and scratched across two runs — one on a hit-by-pitch from Angel Rades and another via a productive groundout from Owen Brock.

Starter Sam Mommer showed flashes of dominance across five innings, scattering nine hits and striking out four. Peter Fusek came on in relief and shut the door over the final 1.2 innings, keeping the Rangers within striking distance with his sharp command.

Offensively, Parkside made the most of limited opportunities, with Nathan Hanel providing a spark with a double in the third inning and Fusek adding a clutch single in the seventh to give the Rangers a late chance. However, Parkside's rally attempt in the final frame came up just short after a pair of runners reached with two outs.

GAME TWO
Noah Gerritson delivered one of his strongest outings of the season, allowing just one hit over seven shutout innings, walking four and striking out seven. Storti recorded the final six outs for his third save, scattering two hits and sealing a huge win for Parkside.

The Rangers broke through in the third inning. Peter Fusek singled and stole second before Owen Brock delivered an RBI double to right. Josh Wicker followed with a run-scoring single to make it 2–0. Parkside added an insurance run in the sixth when Angel Rades drove in Brock with a fielder's choice.

Fusek paced the offense with a 3-for-4 day, adding two stolen bases. Brock finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk, while Wicker also collected two hits and an RBI. Saginaw Valley was limited to just three hits — two by Lucas Mead, including a ninth-inning double.

Chase Raymond took the loss despite a strong outing, allowing three runs (all earned) over seven innings with six strikeouts.
