Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

The Cardiac Rangers Strike Again, Downing PNW in De Simone Arena

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Parkside men's basketball team returned to Haribo Court on Saturday afternoon for GLIAC action. The Rangers took on the Pride of Purdue Northwest in a thilling game. Parkside would mount a late second half comeback to squeak by the Pride 70-69.

Inside the Box Score
  • Cameron Mallory had a breakout game, dropping 23 points off the bench while seeing 25 minutes of action. The senior also added eight boards, two assists, and a block to his tally.
  • The Rangers won the battle on the boards, out rebounding the Pride 40-37.
  • Jack Rose and Ethan Ivan both notched double digits in the scoring column for Parkside. Rose finished the game with 13 points, and Ivan with 10.

How it Happened
The Rangers offense would get off to a slow start as the Pride would use the first part of the first half to stretch their lead to as much as nine points. A Nick Brown three pointer would mark the start of an 11-2 run as Parkside would pull back even with the Pride at the 9:07 mark of the first half 20-20.

PNW would pull back in front, taking a 29-25 lead after converting a three point play with 5:19 remaining in the first half of action. The Rangers would once again get back to work staying within striking distance of the Pride. A tough take to the basket to beat the halftime buzzer by Cameron Mallory would give the Rangers the slim 38-37 lead heading into the halftime break.

Parkside would get to work to open the second half, defending their lead, but it would last until the 15:22 mark as the Pride would convert a lay up to take the 46-44 lead. The Pride would try to pull away but the Rangers would hang around tough, not allowing the Pride lead to amass more the six points.

It would come down to the final few possessions between the two teams, as a Josiah Palmer triple with 38 seconds remaining would cut the Pride lead to just one 69-68.

Parkside's defense would force a turnover on the PNW inbound to put the ball back in the Rangers hands. With just 36 seconds remaining the Rangers would execute a play to perfection, giving Palmer a wide open lane to the hoop for the go ahead basket to give the Rangers the 70-69 lead. With 25 seconds left the Rangers would buckle down on the last defensive possession and force a missed shot to secure another GLIAC victory and sweep the week.
