Rose's Career Night Not Enough as Rangers Fall to Northern Michigan

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Parkside men's basketball team returned to Haribo Court in De Simone Arena on Thursday night. The Rangers hosted Northern Michigan. The Wildcats' offense was too much for the Rangers as they would fall 83-70.

  • Despite the loss, Jack Rose turned in a career performance. The junior poured in a career high 33 point night on 12-23 shooting.
  • Josiah Palmer and Nick Brown both had double digit performances in the loss. Palmer would have 15 points and Brown with 10.
  • The Wildcats would shoot at an effiecent 56% clip to the Rangers 40.7% on the evening.

 
How it Happened
The Parkside Rangers came out strong to open their matchup against Northern Michigan, with Jack Rose setting the tone early by knocking down a jumper on the first possession. Moments later, Nick Brown extended the lead with a deep three, and Josiah Palmer followed suit from beyond the arc to give Parkside an early 8-2 advantage.
 


Northern Michigan responded with a layup from Sam Privet and a three-pointer by Dylan Kuehl, cutting the lead to just one. Jack Rose remained aggressive, hitting another jumper to push Parkside ahead 10-7. However, NMU found their rhythm, rattling off an 11-2 run and taking an 18-10 lead midway through the half.
 
Rose continued to keep Parkside within striking distance, connecting on another jumper, but NMU's offense stayed efficient. The Wildcats extended their lead to double digits after another three-pointer from Parzych and a layup from Cal Klesmit, making it 23-12. The Rangers fought back with key baskets from Brown and Cameron Mallory, trimming the deficit to 23-17 with under nine minutes left.
 
Despite Parkside's efforts, NMU capitalized on second-chance opportunities and efficient three-point shooting, widening the gap to 32-20 after a Klesmit triple. Ethan Ivan and Mallory provided a spark for the Rangers late in the half, combining for back-to-back buckets to cut the lead to eight. However, the Wildcats closed the half strong, as they would push their lead to 43-27 heading into the break.
 
Northern Michigan controlled the second half from the start, extending their lead early with a three-pointer. NMU would extend their lead to as much as 21 points in the second half. The Wildcats collected key baskets to keep momentum on their side, while Parkside fought to stay within reach behind Jack Rose's sharpshooting. Rose hit multiple threes and helped cut the deficit to single digits late in the half, but Northern Michigan responded with timely free throws and defensive stops. Foul trouble became an issue for both teams, leading to a steady stream of free throw attempts, with Privet and Gittens capitalizing for NMU.
 
As the game wound down, Parkside made a final push, with Rose continuing to score and Josiah Palmer facilitating key plays. However, NMU's inside presence and ability to convert at the free-throw line kept them ahead. A late layup and more clutch free throws from sealed the win, preventing Parkside from completing the comeback. Despite a strong second-half effort from Parkside, Northern Michigan's balanced attack and defensive composure secured a double-digit victory 83-70.
