Kenosha, WI – Michigan Tech held off a valiant second-half effort from the Parkside men's basketball team, emerging with a 71-63 victory in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) showdown at De Simone Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The game was tightly contested throughout, with the lead changing hands seven times. Parkside, despite their gritty performance, ultimately fell short in the closing minutes after Michigan Tech used a late surge to secure the win.
Marcus Tomashek was the standout for the Huskies, scoring a game-high 30 points, including four 3-pointers, and adding seven rebounds. Gabe Smith also played a pivotal role, contributing 21 points and four assists. Michigan Tech's overall shooting performance improved in the second half, hitting 57% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc.
Parkside, which had shown resilience throughout the game, was led by
Josiah Palmer, who put up 24 points and three rebounds.
Jack Rose added 15 points, but the Rangers struggled to
keep pace with the Huskies' efficient offense late in the game.
The game was neck and neck for most of the first half, with Parkside holding a slight 28-29 advantage going into the break when Palmer beat the first half buzzer with a three.
With the game tied at 44-44 midway through the second half, the Huskies strung together a 7-0 run to take control. Parkside had a few opportunities to close the gap but was unable to claw back.
Michigan Tech moves to 23-6 overall and 18-3 in GLIAC play, while Parkside drops to 14-15 and 11-10 in conference action.
