Parkside set for GLIAC Semifinal vs. Saginaw Valley State

KENOSHA, Wis. — Parkside women's soccer heads to Allendale for the GLIAC Tournament semifinals on Friday, Nov. 14, meeting No. 3 seed Saginaw Valley State at 3 p.m. CT at the Grand Valley State Soccer Field. The No. 2-seeded Rangers have posted their first 10-win season since 2016 and advance after a 2-0 quarterfinal win over Purdue Northwest.

Picked eighth in the preseason, Parkside is 10-7-2 overall and 10-4-1 in GLIAC play after Tuesday's quarterfinal. The Rangers have nearly tripled last year's goal output with 29 this season and rank third in the league at 1.526 goals per match. Senior Emily Mikkelson leads with six goals and a team-best seven assists (second in the GLIAC) for 19 points (third in the GLIAC). Sophomore Ava Rizzitano also has six goals and sits among the league leaders with 47 shots. In goal, senior Tristen Cross has 64 saves and four shutouts. This is Parkside's second straight semifinal appearance and the second in program history.

SCOUTING SAGINAW VALLEY STATE:
The Cardinals arrive as the No. 3 seed at 12-5-2 overall and 10-4-1 in the GLIAC. They advanced with a double-overtime quarterfinal win over Davenport, 1-0, on Tuesday behind a late header from Maddie White. SVSU is one of two GLIAC teams to surpass 40 goals this season (43) and has allowed just 20, the third-fewest in the conference. Madi Bajus paces the league with 12 goals and 27 points and leads the GLIAC in both shots (61) and shots on goal (29). Lauryn Farcassi adds six goals, and Emily Kolodin's eight assists lead the conference. In net, Lainey Garbarz leads the GLIAC with 87 saves and owns four shutouts.

This is the 19th all-time meeting between the programs. Saginaw Valley State leads the series 14-2-2, though Parkside won the lone matchup this season 3-1 after scoring three unanswered goals, with the winner from Carly Nolte in the 74th minute. The teams have met twice previously in the GLIAC Tournament, both quarterfinals (2018, 2019), with SVSU advancing each time. Friday marks their first postseason meeting in six years.
