MANHEIM, Pa. | The University of Wisconsin-Parkside wrestling team will open the 2025-26 season ranked No. 5 in the nation, according to the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division II Preseason Coaches' Poll released Thursday. The Rangers trail only Nebraska-Kearney, Lander, Pitt-Johnstown, and Tiffin in the national rankings.
Parkside enters the season as the highest-ranked team from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). The NSIC leads all conferences with five teams featured in the national preseason poll.
The Rangers also placed five individuals in the NWCA's preseason national rankings.
At 125 pounds,
Shane Corrigan opens the season ranked second nationally. The three-time All-American (5th in 2025, 6th in 2024, and 7th in 2023) finished last season with a 25-12 record. Corrigan placed fifth at the NCAA Championships, second at the NCAA Super Region V Championships, and earned runner-up finishes at both the Findlay Open and the Jim Koch Wisconsin Open. He recorded 17 bonus-point wins, including 11 by technical fall.
At 149 pounds,
Jalen Spuhler returns to the rankings at fourth after an injury-shortened 2024-25 campaign. Before his season was cut short, Spuhler posted a 12-2 record that included three wins over ranked opponents. He claimed the Midwest Classic title and finished runner-up at the Findlay Open. A two-time All-American, Spuhler placed sixth nationally in 2024 and fourth in 2023.
Brody Hemauer returns to competition this season and enters the rankings fourth at 165 pounds after missing last year due to injury. The 2024 All-American finished sixth nationally with a 24-12 record in 2023-24, earning 15 bonus-point wins—six of them by fall.
After a breakout season,
Dajun Johnson transitions from 165 to 174 pounds and begins the year ranked seventh. Johnson earned All-America honors in 2025 with a third-place finish at the NCAA Championships. He finished the 2024-25 season 33-7 overall, adding a runner-up finish at the Super Region V Championships and podium finishes at both the Jim Koch Wisconsin and Findlay Opens. Johnson collected 17 bonus-point victories, with 11 wins coming by fall or technical fall.
Rounding out the Rangers' preseason honorees,
Matthew Chi is ranked 14th at 133 pounds. Chi compiled a 28-7 record in 2024-25, finishing sixth at the Super Region V Championships. He claimed individual titles at the Pointer Open and Jim Koch Wisconsin Open, while also placing fifth at the Midwest Classic and sixth at the Findlay Open.
Parkside will officially open the 2025-26 season on Saturday, November 1. Part of the squad will compete at the Pointer Open, while another group will travel to Madison for the Wisconsin Wrestling Showcase at the UW Field House, where they will take on 13
th ranked McKendree University at 5:00pm.
