DETROIT, Mich. – The Parkside men's basketball team traveled to Michigan for GLIAC action on Thursday night. The Rangers took on Wayne State and would fall to the Warriors in a true nail biter 65-61.
Inside the Box Score
- Parkside guard Josiah Palmer entered the 1,000 point club after a 16 point performance in the loss. Palmer shot 6-16 from the field and dished out a team high five assists in the effort.
- Ethan Ivan, Nick Brown, and Jack Rose all added 11 points each in the loss. Brown was two rebounds shy of a double-double with eight on the evening.
- The Rangers were out rebounded by the Warriors 34-28. Parkside is now 0-8 when out rebounded by their opponent.
How it Happened
Both offenses would struggle in the opening half of play as both teams would fail to reach the 30-point mark by the end of the first half. The Warriors would jump out to an early lead before trading the lead several times with the Rangers. Parkside would have a strong final five minutes of the half, regaining the lead from Wayne State and enter the halftime break up 29-27.
The two sides would find more of their footing offensively in the second half of action. The Rangers would go from shooting 38.7% in the first half to 42.9% in the second.
The game would come down to the wire. Parkside would look comfortable after a converted and one opportunity by
Cameron Mallory would put the Rangers up five with 11:47 remaining at 43-38. Palmer would respond to a Wayne State free throw with a three pointer to grow the lead to six points, the Rangers largest of the game. Wayne State would make a tremendous 6-0 run to bring it back even. An
Ethan Ivan three pointer and
Jack Rose jumper would put the Rangers back in front 51-46 with 7:58 remaining.
From there the Warriors would stun the Rangers with another run, this time 10-0, giving the Warriors the 56-51 lead with under five minutes remaining. Despite the Rangers offensive push, the Warriors would always find an answer to defend their lead and go on to win 65-61.
