UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Parkside men's basketball team returned to action on Saturday afternoon. The Rangers took on Saginaw Valley State in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action. The Rangers move back to .500 in GLIAC play after topping the Cardinals 77-66.
Inside the Box Score
- Ethan Ivan turned in a career performance in the win. The junior posted a new career high 22 points. Ivan was a lethal 9-12 from the floor and 4-7 from three point range.
- For the first time this season the Rangers had two 20-plus point scorers after Jack Rose finished with 21 points. Rose, who uncharacteristically struggled a bit from three, went 7-16 from the floor and a perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe.
How it Happened
Saginaw Valley State would jump out into the lead, hitting the game's first shot. The Cardinals would work to build their early lead, but the Rangers kept themselves within reach, only allowing SVSU's biggest lead be five points. Parkside finally took the lead at the 8:11 mark on a
Rokas Castillo three, making the score 17-16. The Rangers would be in the driver's seat from there utilizing an 18-9 run, capped off by an
Ethan Ivan trey ball to swell their lead to eight. Parkside's run gave them the 34-26 lead heading into the halftime break.
The Rangers would continue to push on the gas in the second half of action. SVSU would try to stop the bleeding a bit, cutting the Ranger lead to as little as six points about two minutes into the second half. Started by a pair of Ivan triples, the Rangers would outscore the Cardinals 10-2 to take a 14-point lead at 47-33 with 14:04 remaining. The Rangers lead would stay in the double digits, outside of a 15 second span, for the remainder of the game as they would cruise to a 77-66 victory.
