KENOSHA, Wis. – The Parkside men's basketball team is set for another GLIAC road trip this week. The Rangers will open in Detroit on Thursday as they will take on Wayne State with a tip scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EST. Scouting Wayne State
The Warriors enter the week sitting at 5-7 overall and 1-3 in GLIAC play. Despite having just one conference win, the Warriors three losses were by no more than 10 points. WSU took Grand Valley State down to the wire in a 65-63 loss for their first GLIAC loss of the year. The Warriors recently took on No. 14 Lake Superior State on January 2
nd, only losing by four points 75-71 on the road. The Warriors lone GLIAC win came over the Davenport Panthers 76-67 back on December 5
th.
Offensively Wayne State is led by Carmelo Harris. Harris, a junior from Flint, Mich., leads the team in scoring at 16.3 ppg. Harris shoots the ball at a high percentage currently sitting at 50% from the field and 40% from beyond the three point arc. He is even impressive from the charity stripe, shooting almost lights out at 93.2%. Harris hasn't missed a free throw in GLIAC action shooting a perfect 23 for 23.
On the defensive end the Warriors look to Tamario Adley and Ray Williams. Both have been glass cleaners for the Warriors averaging over six rebounds per game. Adley also leads the team in steals thus far with 20 entering Thursday's game.
Scouting Saginaw Valley State
SVSU enters the week with a 5-7 overall record and 1-3 record in GLIAC Play. The Cardinals lone GLIAC win came over Davenport, 64-61. They've picked up a few notable wins outside of conference play over UIndy and Northwood.
The Cardinals offense flows through Toodles Seal. Seal is averaging 16.1 ppg currently while shooting 50.3% from the floor. Teammate Freddie McIntosh aids the team with 13.8 ppg while shooting just 35.8% from the floor. Senior guard Maurice Anderson has been a key facilitator for the Cardinals, having dished a team high 15 assists so far this season.
Defensively Saginaw Valley State relies on forward Elijah Mattingly to win the rebounding battle. The junior is the current rebounding leader for SVSU, averaging 6.1 rpg. Mattingly is also a rim protector for the Cardinals as he averages over a block per game for SVSU. McIntosh also leads the Cardinals with 1.4 steals per game.
