KENOSHA, Wis. – The Parkside men's basketball program returned to Haribo Court in De Simone Arena on Thursday night. The Rangers played host to the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals taking the game down to the wire. The Rangers would end up on the losing end of a narrow 68-65 scoreline.
Inside the Box Score
- Jack Rose and Josiah Palmer both put in solid offensive shifts for the Rangers. Rose ended the night with a game high 22 point performance. Palmer ended the game with 21 points, all coming from beyond the arc.
- The Cardinals (53.2%) would out-shoot the Rangers (41.7%) on the evening.
- Fawaz Surakat had a dominant performance on the boards for the Rangers pulling down seven offensive and four defensive rebounds to total 11 on the evening.
How it Happened
SVSU would jump out to a 6-0 lead early in the game to set the pace. The Rangers would work the entire first half either trailing or tied with the Cardinals. SVSU's offense would fire on all cylinders, shooting 61.5% from the field in the opening 20 minutes. Rangers guard
Josiah Palmer would collect 15 of his 21 points in the first half of action, going 5-6 from three. Palmer and the Rangers would look to stay in striking distance of the Cardinals for much of the first half. The Rangers would go into the halftime break down five to the Cardinals 40-35.
The Rangers would buckle down defensively in the second half of play, holding the Cardinals to shoot just 42.9% from the field. SVSU would open the half working to distance themselves from the Rangers, stretching their lead to as much as 11 points. The Rangers would then hit a turning point as they would go on an 15-1 run in response with 10:53 to go in the game.
From there the two sides would play back and forth basketball, trading blows. There would be five lead changes in the final 9:45 of the game. With 3:19 to go the Cardinals would retake the lead from the Rangers 64-63 and never look back. Despite the Rangers best efforts, the Cardinals were able to close the door on the Rangers on their home floor 68-65.
