Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Rangers Fall to Grand Valley State on the Road

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Parkside men's basketball team returned to action on Thursday night looking to stay hot against Grand Valley State. The Rangers would fall to the Lakers 59-49, snapping their three game win streak.

Inside the Box Score
  • Parkside would finish the game shooting 33.3% from the field and would struggle to get the three pointers to fall as they would shoot just 27.8% from behind the arc.
  • Josiah Palmer would lead the offensive charge for the Rangers, finishing with a game high 18 points on the evening.

How it Happened

The first half of basketball was a low scoring affair. Turnovers would plague the Rangers as they would commit nine in the first half alone.

Parkside would get on the board first on a Jack Rose three pointer before the Lakers would get their offense going. The Lakers would score six unanswered points to take an early lead and force the Rangers to play from behind for much of the first half.

Josiah Palmer would go on an 8-0 run himself with 7:09 remaining to put the Rangers back on top 16-13. GVSU would answer with an 11-3 run to retake the lead with seconds to go in the half 24-19.

Parkside would get a huge momentum boost heading into the halftime break as Palmer would launch a three-quarter court shot to cut the Laker lead to just two 24-22 heading into halftime.

Grand Valley State would come out of the gates in the second half going on a 14-2 run to build a 14-point lead at 38-24 with 15:53 remaining. The Rangers would struggle to get their offense going in the second half. It wouldn't be until the 9:43 mark where the Rangers offense would find their footing, as a Jack Rose three-point play would serve as the start of a 18-4 run for the Rangers.

Down just 52-46 with 3:45 left in the game Parkside would be right back in the mix, but a scoreless streak from both sides would lead to the Rangers being forced to foul to conserve the clock. The Rangers late game run would be too little too late as the Lakers would go on to take the 59-49 victory.
