How it Happened
The Rangers set the tone early. Despite going down early 4-0, a
Matas Castillo steal would set a new defensive tone for the Rangers as they would respond with an 8-0 run themselves to take the reins from FSU. The Rangers would hold the lead with the Bulldogs staying within striking distance up until a
Jack Rose jumper with 10:30 left in the first half. Rose's jumper would ignite a massive 15-0 run to stretch their lead to 33-11 with 6:40 to go in the first half of action. During that 15-0 run the Rangers would shoot 5-6 from the field, including 3-4 from three-point territory.
The Bulldogs would gain their offensive footing, putting up 10 points to close out the half. Parkside would stay hot, outscoring the Bulldogs in the final moments of the first half to go into halftime with a commanding 43-24 lead.
Ferris State's offense found their stroke in the second half, shooting 54.2% from the field in the final 20 minutes. The Bulldogs would look to chip away slowly at the Ranger lead, cutting it down to single digits on a three pointer with 3:49 remaining making the score 68-61. With momentum in favor of Ferris State the Rangers in their next possession would utilize the whole shot clock as
Matas Castillo would drive the lane and draw the and one, swinging the momentum back to Parkside's favor. The three-point play would mark the start of a quick 7-0 Ranger run to slam the door closed on the Bulldogs. Parkside would go on to pull off the massive upset 78-66.
