University Center, MI - The Parkside Rangers dropped the opening game of the series to the SVSU Cardinals on Friday. The game featured a delay that lasted over an hour midway through the first inning. After the long pause, the top team in the GLIAC handed the Rangers a 13-1 loss.
How it happened:
The game began with dark clouds over the sky. As the game entered the bottom of the first, the rain started to make its way over the field. As soon as SVSU loaded up the bases, the umpires suspended the game. The game was then delayed for over an hour with players helping rake the infield dirt to bring it back into playing shape. Eventually, the baseball field was ready for the Rangers and Cardinals to do battle.
Despite the delay in the opening inning, nothing stopped the Cardinals from getting on the board. One of the best offenses in the nation poured three runs on right away and made a statement. In fact, they scored in every single inning they hit in, except the seventh inning.
Parkside was able to cross their only run of the game in the seventh inning of baseball. Joe Hoeks grounded into a fielder's choice, scoring Carter Storti from third base.
However, the Rangers were held to seven hits and committed five errors in the field. They now fall to 21-24 overall, and 10-16 in GLIAC play.
