Rangers Fall Twice On Saturday To SVSU

UNIVERSITY CITY, Mich. --- The Parkside Baseball team continued their final regular season series of the 2024 season on Saturday afternoon, playing in games two and three against the Saginaw Valley State University Cardinals. Parkside battled, pulling close late in game two, but ultimately came up short in both games Saturday, falling by scores of 7-2 and 11-9.
 
GAME ONE
Kaleb Schulist got the start for the Rangers. He worked four innings, allowing four earned runs on seven hits. Kyler Kennen worked the final two innings of the seven-inning game, allowing one run on two hits. Carter Storti was swinging in game one. The freshman went 3-4 with a double. Owen Brock and Joe Hoeks also had two hits in the contest.
 
Parkside got the scoring going in the top of the first. With one out Jude Allen singled to second base. One out later three straight singles, including RBI singles by Brock and Camden Kearney allowed the Rangers to take a 2-0 lead.
 
SVSU got a run back in the first, then tied the game at two with a run in the second. The Cardinals then scored four runs on three hits and were aided by two Parkside errors in the bottom of the fourth. SVSU added on one more run in the bottom of the fifth, extending their lead to 7-2.
 
Parkside was unable to mount a comeback over the final two innings, falling 7-2.
 
GAME TWO
Joe Hoeks went 3-5 in game two with two runs scored and two RBIs. Emanuel Andujar Ferreira and Angel Rades also had big games offensively, driving in three runs a piece. Carter Storti was a bright spot on the mound for the Rangers, throwing two scoreless innings of relief, and allowing just one hit.
 
SVSU struck first for a run in the bottom of the first. Parkside answered back, tying the game at one on an Andujar single to the right scoring Peter Fusek.
 
The Cardinals then scored nine unanswered runs over the next three innings, building their advantage out to 10-1.
 
Parkside fought back scoring four runs in both the sixth and seventh innings. In the sixth Parkside notched six hits. Hoeks drove in the first run of the inning on an RBI single through the right side. With the bases loaded and one out Rades singled to center, scoring two. Parkside scored one more on an Andujar sac fly, pulling within 10-5.
 
SVSU scored one in the bottom of the sixth, but Parkside was able to cut into the advantage again in the seventh. With one out and two on, Hoeks singled to right scoring one. Then with the bases loaded again, Rades reached on an infield single, pulling Parkside within 11-7. An RBI walk plated another Ranger and a wild pitch allowed Parkside to get within 11-9.
 
Parkside could not rally further, falling by a final score of 11-9.
