Rangers Fall to Quincy in Last Two Games of Springfield Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- The Parkside softball team closed out their time at the Springfield Invitational on Saturday, facing off against Quincy University. The Rangers dropped both games of the double header 4-1 and 1-0.

Game One
Ellie Curtis would get the starting nod in the circle for the Rangers in game one. Despite the loss, the sophomore would toss a stellar game, tossing a complete game and allowing just two earned runs on six hits. The Rangers offense would struggle to produce runs to support Curtis. Cassie Rutledge would turn in a solid performance with another multi hit game, including a triple.

The Hawks would push two runs across in the first inning. The first run would come on an infield single while the second run would come across due to a Ranger throwing error. The first inning would end 2-0 in favor of Quincy.

The Rangers would get on the board in the third inning. The Rangers would take advantage of an Quincy error to get a runner on base. Rutledge would then single out to left field to put runners on second and third as Rutledge would advance on the throw. Haley Remington would then hit a sacrifice fly to score Taylor Delgado to put the Rangers on the board. It would be all the offense could muster in the inning as the score would sit at 2-1 at the conclusion of the third inning.

Quincy would tack on an insurance run in the fourth to grow their lead to 3-1. The following inning they would score again after a Ranger fielding error to make the score 4-1. Neither side would produce a run for the remainder of the game as Quincy would go on to win 4-1.

Game Two
The Rangers would start Olivia Masnica on the mound for game two. Masnica was terrific, as she went the full seven innings while allowing just one run on four hits. Parkside would have two players with a multi hit hit game in Rutledge and Toni Rodriguez. Rodriguez was a perfect 2-2 with two singles.

The only run of the game would be scored in the top half of the third. The Hawks would hit a one out single then advance the runner on a sacrifice bunt. Quincy would then line a double into the left center gap to score the runner from second. That run would be the difference, as the Hawks would top the Rangers 1-0.

Up Next
