ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Parkside softball team played the first half of a four game series against Maryville on Saturday. The Rangers dropped both games to the Saints, game one in a 6-2 scoreline and game two in a 4-1 scoreline.
Game One
Hope Maes got the start on the mound in game one. Maes would throw the first two innings until teammate
Olivia Masnica came on in releif. Masnica would go the final four innings allowing just three hits and collecting two strikeouts.
Cassie Rutledge continued to swing the hot bat for the Rangers, picking up a RBI triple on the day.
The first two innings would be a struggle for the Rangers defensively as they would allow four runs on six hits and an error.
Parkside would finally break through in the fifth inning.
Logan Sivak would score on an infield error by the Saints and would leave a duck on the pond for Rutledge. Rutledge would send a shot to the centerfield wall for a RBI stand-up triple. The Rangers would end the inning down just two runs, 4-2.
The Saints would answer in the bottom half of the sixth with insurance runs. The Rangers couldn't rally in the top of the seventh, and the score would end 6-2.
Game Two
Ellie Curtis would start in the circle in game two for the Rangers and would throw the entirity game. She would allow four runs on ten hits, striking out six Saints while throwing 95 pitches.
Mia Johnson would lead the Rangers offensively as the sophomore went 2-3 at the plate in game two.
Once again defensive struggles got the best of the Rangers in game two. The Saints would put up one run in each of the first three innings of play.
The lone Ranger run came in the fourth inning as Rutledge would draw a walk with the bases loaded to bring in
Rylee Baetz. The Saints would answer the run immediately in the bottom half of the fourth, making the score 4-1. The final two and a half innings would go scoreless as the game would finish in a 4-1 scoreline.
