Preview: Rangers to Play in Springfield Invitational

KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Parkside softball team is set to head south and play four total games in the the Springfield Invitational. The Rangers will play a doubleheader against the host University of Illinois Springfield on Friday. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. CST and 4 p.m. CST. They will turn around and play Quincy on Saturday at 12 p.m. CST and 2 p.m. CST. Coverage for the weekend can be accessed at ParksideRangers.com/coverage.

The Rangers are coming off a 2-4 weekend at the Rosemont Dome Tournament and currently sit at 4-7 overall. Currently they are being led offensively by Cassie Rutledge and Haley Remington who are both carrying a batting average above .400 with Rutledge at a team leading .474 and Remington close behind at .469. Parkside has thrown several different players in the circle this year, riding Olivia Masnica the most. Masnica has thrown a team leading 26 innings and holds a team leading 2.42 ERA. 

Scouting UIS
The host enters the invitational with a 9-3 record so far this season after coming off a perfect 4-0 weekend last week. Isabella Wilson has been swinging the hot bat for the Praire Stars, batting a team leading .459 with 13 RBIs to her tally. Alexis Carrol has been the top arm for UIS so far in the early going. Carrol has gotten four starts and thrown three complete games with an impressive 1.47 ERA. She is currently 4-1 on the season having pitched 28.3 innings.

Scouting Quincy
This will not be the first time the Rangers face the Hawks this season. The two sides already squared off at the Music City Invitational where the Hawks topped the Rangers 5-3. Since then, Quincy has competed in the Blue Bridge Battle where they went an even 2-2. Isabella Shields has been the top offensive player so far for Quincy, batting a .350 with two doubles and two RBIs. The Hawks have thrown a combination of three pitchers so far this year with each of them throwing at least 15 innings. KJ Weller was the winning pitcher when playing the Rangers back on February 18th. Weller currently holds a 6.87 ERA with 15 strikeouts.
