ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Parkside men's track and field team competed in the 2024 GVSU Big Meet on Friday and Saturday in one of the most competitive indoor meets in the country. Parkside had several strong performances over the two days, including setting two school records.
Sean Waldvogel set a new school record in the 800 meters and the distance medley relay team comprised of Waldvogel,
Austin Depuydt,
Michael Cabaltera, and
Grady Davis broke the old school record by over five seconds. Both records also met the NCAA Division II provisional standards.
FRIDAY RECAP
Sean Waldvogel set a new school record in the 800 meters, finishing 12th in a time of 1:52.24. His time also meets NCAA Provisional standards.
Grady Davis finished 7th in the 3000-meter early section, finishing in a personal best time of 8:26.94.
Johnathon Nowacki finished fifth in his heat of the 5000-meter run, finishing in a time of 15:10.52.
Simon Dominic recorded a personal best in the high jump on Friday. His mark of 1.95 was good for third place.
SATURDAY RECAP
Thomas Doherty finished 16
th in the 60 meters, running a personal best of 7.03.
Thomas Diamond and
Michael Cabaltera posted top-20 finishes in the 800 meters, with Diamond setting a new personal best.
Johnathon Nowacki finished 9
th in the 3000 meters, smashing his own personal best, finishing in a time of 8:31.79.
The distance medley relay team of Depuydt, Cabaltera, Waldvogel and, Davis met NCAA provisional standards and set a new school record, finishing 7
th in a time of 9:58.95.
In the field events,
Ariel Molina and
Thomas Doherty placed in the top ten in the high jump, with Molina setting a new personal best with a mark of 1.90m.
Michael Hendrix finished sixth in the pole vault, recording a new personal best of 4.47m.
Daksh Arora also had a top-ten finish, finishing ninth with a mark of 4.32m.
Riley Williams placed 8
th in the triple jump, recording a mark of 12.64m.
