Rangers Drop Match Up with Maryville in the Haribo Classic

KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Parkside men's basketball team played in their first home competition of the season on Saturday afternoon in the Haribo Classic. The Rangers welcomed the Maryville Saints to town for a non conference battle. They would fall to the Saints 72-62.

Inside the Box Score
  • Nick Brown led the Rangers offensively on the afternoon. The graduate student had a team high 19 points while shooting 6-9 from the field. Brown also had a team high four rebounds.
  • Jack Rose and Ethan Ivan both chipped in 10 points a piece in the effort.
  • The Saints had the hot hand, shooting 58% from the field and 47.1% from beyond the arc.
How it Happened
The Saints jumped out in front in the beginning stages of the game. Maryville would open the game on a 10-0 run in the first three minutes of the game. The Rangers would get their first basket at the 15:56 mark. Parkside's defense didn't have much of an answer for Maryville's hot shooting as the Saints would stretch their lead to as much as 12 points at the 10:10 mark. The Rangers then found a bit of an offensive spark, mounting a run of their own. Parkside would ride a 13-4 run to trim the Saints lead to just three as a Jack Rose corner three would make the score 26-23. Both sides would trade baskets in the final minutes of the half as Maryville would find themselves with a six point lead heading into the half 37-31.

Nick Brown led the way in the opening half with 12 points. Jack Rose, in his season debut, chipped in six first half points as well. Josiah Palmer, also seeing action for the first time this season, led the Rangers at the half in assists with two.

The second half of action was much the same for the Rangers as the Saints would out score them in the half 35-31. The Saints would distance themselves again to open the second half, utilizing a 11-6 run in the first five minutes. Maryville would build their biggest lead to 16 on a three pointer with 9:02 remaining. Trailing 59-43 the Rangers would try to mount the comeback, building a 10-4 run in response to the Saints largest lead of the game. It was too little to late as Maryville would slow the Rangers offense down while hitting shots down the stretch to put the game out of reach. The Saints would pick up the 73-63 win for their first of the season.
