Rangers Secure First GLIAC Victory of the Season Over Roosevelt

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. - The Parkside women's soccer team traveled south on Sunday afternoon for a GLIAC match against Roosevelt University. The Rangers would grab their first GLIAC win of the season over the Lakers in a 3-1 scoreline.

"That was a long time coming!" said head coach Brittany Nikolic after the victory. "No doubt it's been tough to find the goals and get the results lately but today the whole team earned it. I'm happy for Nadiia and Ani to get their first goals as Rangers and pleased with the contributions of so many players today.
I asked the team to play with joy and have fun out there and we definitely did. Now it's time to ride that momentum and do it again next week."

Inside the Box Score
  • The Rangers offense dominated the Lakers. Parkside fired 21 total shots on the day to Roosevelt's seven. The Rangers also generated 12 corner kicks on the afternoon and held the Lakers to zero.
  • Emily Mikkelson notched her second goal of the season and would be the game winner for the Rangers. She now ties Ava Rizzitano for the team lead.
  • Nadiia Ivanchenko had a solid day for Parkside. The Ukraine native scored her first career goal in a Parkside uniform. Ivanchenko added another point by assisting Mikkelson's game winning goal.
  • Freshman Ani Minic put the cherry on top by collecting her first career goal in the 60th minute.

How it Happened
Depsite the Rangers dominate offensive showing, the Lakers would be the team to strike first just nine minutes into the match. The Rangers would go down 1-0 and be forced to search for the equalizing goal early in the match.

The Rangers would find the equalizer in the 38th minute. Nadiia Ivanchenko would take advantage of a Laker turnover at the top of the 18-yard box. She would rifle a shot in the lower left corner to notch her first goal of the season and knot things up at 1-1. The scoreline would hold heading into the half.
The Parkside offense would keep pushing and find the back of the net in the 57th minute. Emily Mikkelson would run onto a through ball from Ivanchenko and finish one on one with the Roosevelt keeper. Mikkelson's goal would shift the scoreline in favor of the Rangers at 2-1.
Not even five minutes later the Rangers would once again score, this time in the 60th minute. Ani Minic would settle a shaky Laker clearence at the top of the 18-yard box. She would move the ball to her left foot and slot the ball inside of the right post to top of the Rangers scoring. Parkside would go on to win 3-1.
