Rangers Nearly Break Record for Service Aces in Single Match, but Fall to Northwood

Hammond, Ind. – In their final match of the 2024 Midwest Crossover Tournament, the Parkside Rangers tallied the most service aces in a single match in program history since 2008. Despite the record-breaking performance, Parkside fell in a thrilling five-set match against Northwood.

Inside the box score:

  • As a team, Parkside recorded 18 service aces, the most by a Parkside team in a single match since September 6, 2008, when they notched 20 aces against Nova Southeastern. Karlee Lois and Marisa Lootens each recorded five aces.
  • For the third time this season, Sam Fisch registered a 20+ kill performance, finishing with 20 kills.
  • Natalie Harris logged her third 20+ dig performance of the weekend, tallying 26 digs in total and 74 for the weekend.
  • Kendal Zeiter secured her first career double-double with 13 kills and 16 digs.
  • Karlee Lois dished out a career-high 49 assists.

How it happened:
The theme of the match was obviously service aces, and the Rangers began the thrilling battle with five from Karlee Lois. After a pair of aces from Natalie Harris, the Rangers found themselves in control with a 10-2 advantage. As Parkside grew their first-set lead, Lindsay Krznarich and Mariena Coon produced timely kills, stretching the lead to 20-12. After nine first-set aces, Krznarich executed a perfect set from Karlee Lois to nail down a 25-19 opening set victory.

After the Rangers dropped a tight second set, 25-23, they bounced back with a close victory in the third. Despite falling behind 6-2 early, a pair of kills from Delanie Voss and two aces from Marisa Lootens drew the Rangers even at 7. Voss added a few more kills down the stretch, totaling four in the third set alone, boosting Parkside's lead. Kendal Zeiter also collected four kills in the set, and her fourth gave the Rangers a 23-19 lead. Sam Fisch converted a set from Karlee Lois, and the Rangers won the set 25-22 while hitting a match-best .387.

The Rangers dropped the fourth set in another back-and-forth, heart-pounding battle, allowing Northwood to force a fifth set. Kendal Zeiter opened the final set with a pair of kills from Lois's sets. Zeiter, who has recorded several double-doubles for the women's basketball team, nailed down her first double-double on the volleyball court. As the final set reached its late stages, Northwood led 13-9. After three errors and a Sam Fisch kill, the Rangers were within one point at 14-13. In a rally that lasted nearly 40 seconds, Northwood held off the Rangers' comeback, earning the final point for a 15-13 victory in an absolute thriller.
