Big Second Half Propels Parkside Past Wayne State

Detroit, MI - Following Parkside's second conference win of the season, the team returned to action on Saturday afternoon. The Rangers traveled to Detroit, Michigan and rode a monster second half to a road victory. Parkside handed Wayne State their second conference loss, downing them 76-58.

Inside the box score:

  • Colin O'Rourke once again led the way for Parkside, scoring 18 points. Colin also went 3-3 from beyond the arc and hauled in eight rebounds.

  • Sam DeVault played just 11 minutes, but scored 18 points. He knocked down four triples and went six of eight from the floor.

  • Parkside outscored Wayne State 44-28 in the second half, the team shot 57% from the floor.

How it happened:
Parkside began the game with a slow offensive start and handed the lead to Wayne State in the beginning minutes. In fact, after two minutes of the contest, Wayne State held a lead for the remaining 18 minutes of the first half. Parkside kept within striking distance thanks to timely shots from Sam DeVault in the opening half.

Wayne State remained persistent on the offensive end, having answers for each Parkside possession. They led by as much as 10 points in the first half. Colin O'Rourke finished the first half with a make from three-point range, finishing with six points in the half. Parkside trailed by three-points after the first 20-minutes of play.

Head Coach Luke Reigel and the Rangers flipped the switch in the second half. Parkside came out firing and didn't look back. The half began with a powerful slam dunk from Colin O'Rourke, which shot some serious energy into Parkside.

After consecutive three-point makes from O'Rourke, Parkside opened up a nine point lead which forced Wayne State into a timeout.  Parkside kept their foot on the gas as Josiah Palmer entered the scoring with a long range triple. The team began the half on a 15-1 run.

By the halfway point of the second half, Parkside had gone up 16 points in what felt like a blink of an eye. Palmer was scoreless in the first half, but scored nine points in the second half including a ridiculous transition take to the rim.

After shooting 37% in the first half, Parkside revived itself with a 57% performance in the second half. As a team, they shot an even 50% (11-22) from three-point range. The defense from Parkside was as solid as it has been all season. This was also the third straight game that Parkside held their opponent to under 60 points. Parkside handed Wayne State their second home loss of the season.
