How it happened:
The long battle began with Parkside off to a promising start. Josiah Palmer, who hadn't scored double figures in five games, scored two quick baskets and reached the double-digit mark fairly quickly. Parkside led 10-2 within the blink of an eye and began the game with a statement. However, Purdue Northwest stuck around and began the back-and-forth series.
Both Rokas Castillo and Matas Castillo played major roles in this game. The twins combined for 10 first half points including tough shots all afternoon long. Palmer had a monster first half, scoring 16 of Parkside's 37 points. They took a six point lead into the halftime break.
Palmer began the second half right where he left off, with a long step back triple. However, Palmer didn't score again in the contest and fouled out later on in the game. With 12:30 to go in the game, Parkside possessed their largest lead of the game, 47-38.
Purdue Northwest stormed back and jumped ahead by six points with six minutes left in regulation. Big shots from Matas Castillo, Colin O'Rourke, and Nick Brown kept Parkside within striking distance. Parkside was without both Rokas Castillo and Palmer after both fouled out with five minutes left.
In the final minute of the game, they trailed by just two points. Ethan Ivan came up with a pair of big time free throws, and Jack Rose gave Parkside the lead with two of his own with 30 seconds left. Purdue Northwest tied the game and sent it into overtime.
The teams battled in overtime once again, but once again drew even. Rose and Matas Castillo traded clutch and key shots and played significant minutes in crunch time. In the second overtime, Purdue Northwest leaped out to a seven-point lead immediately. Parkside pulled within three-points and had a shot for the tie, but came up short when it was all set and done.
