Scouting Davenport
Thursday's game will be the opening game of the Rangers' road trip as they will face Davenport. The Panthers enter this week's play with a 3-14 record, and only recording one win in conference play, sitting at 1-6. Their lone conference win came against Lake Superior State as the Panthers edged out the Lakers 60-58.
The Panthers are led offensively by Lillee Gustafson. The six foot center has been the centerpiece for the program, leading the team in minutes played at 512 and averaging 12.4 ppg. Gustafson also cleans the glass for Davenport, averaging 8 rpg. The center is coming off a big game last week against Lake Superior State as she notched a double double scoring a season high 22 points while grabbing 10 boards. Her scoring and rebounding ability have paired nicely to give her six double doubles on the year so far. Look for Davenport to facilitate much of their offense on the interior, as the Panthers shoot just 28.9% from deep.
Series History
The Rangers all time are 8-0 against the Panthers.
Scouting Grand Valley
Saturday's game will feature a match-up with the No. 5 team in the nation in GVSU. The Lakers are coming off of their first loss in GLIAC play last Saturday to Ferris State. Grand Valley State enters this week's action with a 15-2 overall record and a 6-1 record in GLIAC play.
Grand Valley plays incredible basketball on both ends of the floor. They score an average of 75.4 ppg which ranks 25th in the nation in Division II in third in the GLIAC. The Lakers defensive play makes them one of the better teams in the nation. The Lakers are second in Division II in both scoring margin (28) and scoring defense (47.4). The Rangers offensive firepower and the Lakers defensive play should be an interesting match-up. The Rangers will also be challenged on the boards. GVSU leads in the GLIAC in rebounds per game (43) and are first in Division II for rebound margin (13.9).
Series History
The Lakers are a familiar foe for the Rangers, having met 17 times since 2004. The Lakers have the upper hand, having won 14 of the 17 games since 2004. The last Parkside win over GVSU dates back to March 4, 2021 when the Rangers beat the Lakers in overtime 77-72 in the GLIAC Tournament.
