Preview: Rangers Return to De Simone to Face Huskies and Wildcats

KENOSHA, Wis. -- After picking up another GLIAC victory on Sunday against Purdue Northwest, the Parkside women's basketball team is set to play host to two GLIAC battles in De Simone Arena this week. Ahead for the Rangers is a showdown with the Michigan Tech Huskies on Thursday. Thursday night's tip off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. CST. The Rangers will have a quick turnaround to square off against Northern Michigan on Saturday. The rivalry game is set to tip off at 1 p.m. CST in De Simone Arena.   • Freshman Cassidy Arni is coming off a hot performance against Purdue Northwest on Sunday. The Geneva, Ill. native recorded a new career high 22 points while shooting 8-11 from the field and pulled down four rebounds. The performance led to recognition from the conference as she received GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors for week nine.
  • Sheridan Flauger is on career milestone watch. The junior point guard needs just 14 more assists to hit the 200 mark in career assists. Flauger has been finding open teammates all season and is averaging 4.6 assists in her last three games.
  • The Rangers have one of the top producing offenses in the nation. Parkside ranks 26th in the nation in Division II in scoring offense at 75.6. The Rangers also sit at 11th for field goal percentage at 46.4% and assists per game at 17.1.

Scouting Michigan Tech
Michigan Tech come into town on Thursday to take on the Rangers. The Huskies are sitting at 7-7 on the year, recently picking up a win over Lake Superior State, 75-58. Tech sits at 3-3 in conference. Including the win over LSSU, the Huskies have taken down Davenport and Saginaw Valley State so far in conference play.

The Huskies have a strong reliance on their starting five to do the job, as the Huskies rank last in the GLIAC in bench points. They rely heavily on junior guard Isabella Lenz. Lenz ranks first in the GLIAC in minutes per game as the junior plays an average of 34 minutes a game. She is averaging a team leading 11.8 ppg while shooting 35.4% from the field. On the interior the Huskies are led by senior Sarah Dax. The forward averages 9.8 ppg and shoots 53.5% from the floor.

The series currently favors the Huskies, 11 wins to the Rangers seven. Last time out the Huskies topped the Rangers up in Houghton, 68-58. The last 10 match-ups are split evenly at 5-5.

Scouting Northern Michigan
Saturday's game will feature a rivalry match-up between the Rangers and Wildcats. NMU enters this weeks action 10-5, dropping their most recent game against Ferris State, 79-67. In GLIAC play the Wildcats are 4-2, beating Wayne State, Saginaw Valley State, Davenport, and Lake Superior State. 

The Wildcats are led by Makaylee Kuhn. The senior has been impressive for the Wildcats, leading the team in several categories such as points per game at 16.9, rebounds per game at 7.3, and double doubles with six. Recently in NMU's victory over Lake Superior State, Kuhn surpassed the program's career points scored record. The previous record of 1,699 had sat untouched for 33 years until Kuhn's 18 point performance pushed her over the mark, making her the program's leading career point scorer with 13 regular season games to spare.

The series history favors the Wildcats, 9-5. All 5 of the Ranger wins have come at home. Parkside will look to break a three game losing streak to the 'Cats on Saturday.
