Baker's Late Goal Lifts Rangers to Victory

MOORHEAD, Minn. - The Rangers resumed play after their season opening win last weekend over Lewis University with a road trip to Moorhead Minnesota to face Minnesota State University Moorhead. The Dragons entered the match at 1-1 looking to avenge their recent loss to Mary University. The win for Parkside keeps them unbeaten on the season at 2-0, while MSUM drops to 1-2.

Inside the Box Score

  • Alexis Baker's game winning goal was the only goal of the match and Baker's second on the season.

  • Izzy Guyer gets her first clean sheet of the year after a 7 save day.

  • Parkside put up 19 shots to MSUM's 14.

Head coach Brittany Nikolic said this when reflecting on the win, "Great road win. The circumstances of the day forced us to make some adjustments and I'm very happy with how the team adapted on the fly. And although it took longer than we wanted we ultimately got a clutch goal from Baker and saw the game out."

The first half remained scoreless thanks to great goalkeeping by both keepers in the match. Izzy Guyer and company posted their first clean sheet on the 2023 season.

Just when it looked like the match was going to end in a scoreless draw, Alexis Baker found the ball at her feet in the far-left corner of the field. Baker pressed the defender one on one, cut inside, and finished side netting with her right foot through a tight angle. Baker's goal proved to be the difference in the victory, and the Dragons were unable to find an equalizer with just 5 minutes remaining.

The Rangers will remain in the state of Minnesota as they will play this Sunday against Concordia University St. Paul. Kickoff against the bears is set for 1 p.m. CDT. Coverage for the match can be accessed at parksiderangers.com/coverage!
