KENOSHA, Wis. --- The Parkside men's basketball program is excited to announce two additional signees in the recruiting class 2023. Jack Rose and Sam DeVault will be joining the Rangers in the fall.
Overall, I couldn't be more excited about this recruiting class," said Head Coach
Luke Reigel. "The three freshmen we have coming in bring a ton of skill and competitiveness to our program. The two transfers will be able to step in and fill a couple of holes we had after our losses to the transfer portal. This group will make us better on the court and more importantly will be great representatives of Parkside. Coach Miller and Coach Backalar did an outstanding job in their first year on the recruiting trail for us and we can't wait to get started on the 2024 class."
Jack Rose returns to the Kenosha area after spending the 2022-23 season at UW-Green Bay, making 21 appearances and two starts. Rose grabbed 16 rebounds, tallied nine assists, and totaled five steals and two blocks. Rose played his prep basketball at Westosha Central High School, where he totaled 1,636 career points. As a senior, he helped lead the team to a 25-3 record and an appearance in the Wisconsin Division 2 State semifinals. He averaged 20.4 points per game during the 2021-22 season while shooting 38 percent from three and pulling down 6.5 rebounds per game. Additionally, he was named to the WisSports.net All-State Tournament team in March of 2022.
"We couldn't be more excited about bringing Jack back to Kenosha County. We've known Jack for a long time, and he is a perfect fit for the culture we've built here at Parkside. The first thing that stands out about Jack is that he is a winner. He played in a great program with Coach Hylberg at Westosha and had success in all the other sports he played as well. Jack has the potential to be a tremendous player at Parkside. What we like the most is his all-around game. He was a big-time scorer in high school, but he also can handle it, pass it and help us on the defensive end. We feel like Jack will be able to play any position on the perimeter. He will fit in very well with the group we have returning." – Coach Reigel
Sam DeVault comes to Kenosha after playing 75 career games over three seasons at Bellarmine University. DeVault was a career 44 percent shooter from the field at Bellarmine and was a 40 percent three-point shooter throughout the 2022-23 season. He recorded a season-high 15 points on 5-10 shooting on December 4th against Alice Lloyd. He also brought down a season-high four rebounds against North Alabama on February 16th. Before his time at Bellarmine DeVault played his freshman season at Austin Peay University in Clarksville, Tennessee, where he appeared in 16 games for the Governors. DeVault played his prep basketball at Reitz Memorial in Indiana, where he averaged 14 points per game and 5.3 rebounds per game while earning Honorable Mention All-State accolades. As a junior, he helped lead the team to a 20-5 record and a share of the Southern Indiana Athletic Conference regular season title.
"Sam is a tremendous addition to our program. We were looking for an older, experienced big man who can come right in and have an immediate impact and that is exactly what Sam brings to the program. He's coming from a very strong program that we are familiar with in Bellarmine, so we know that he has been well-coached and has a strong basketball IQ. His biggest strength is shooting the basketball, but we also love the way he moves without the ball and is a good passer. On the defensive end he will add some much-needed size and length to our frontline." – Coach Reigel
Rose, and DeVault join Jake Dunham, Matas Castillo and Rokas Catillo in the signing class of 2023.
