Rangers Advance to GLIAC Championship Game

The Parkside softball team competed in the third day of the GLIAC tournament in Rosemont, Ill. The Rangers jumped out to an early lead against the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals, but fell late and were handed their first loss of the tournament. The defeat set up the Rangers with a rematch against the top-seeded Grand Valley State Lakers in a win-or-go-home game. The Rangers jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, defeating the Lakers for the second time in three days.

HOW IT HAPPENED VS SVSU
 
The Rangers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the second inning with Jadynn Powell hitting and RBI single to score Haley Remington.
 

 
Alex Wooten would get the action started in the third inning with a single to left field, scoring Taylor Delgado to extend the lead. Remington then hit a sacrifice fly to center field that allowed Cassie Rutledge to score from third base. An RBI single from Meagan Maza would send Mia Johnson home to score the Rangers third run of the inning, lifting the Rangers up to a 4-0 lead.
 

 
The Cardinals answered right back, scoring four runs in the bottom of the third to tie the game. A solo home run from Jackie Popko in the fourth inning would give the Cardinals their first lead of the game, and would ultimately be the winning run.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED VS GVSU
Johnson got the offensive party started in the first inning with an RBI single to left, scoring Delgado to jump out to a 1-0 lead.
 
The Rangers used another strong third inning to extend their lead. Wooten hit an RBI single up the middle to score Rutledge. Maza then walked with the bases loaded to bring home Johnson. Powell then hit a sacrifice fly to right field, bringing Wooten home.
 

 
Wooten kept the offense rolling into the fourth inning, hitting an RBI single to left center and scoring Rutledge and Delgado on the play.
 
Powell reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Brenna Konstanty to score and extend the Rangers lead to 7-0. The Lakers did not go down without a fight, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh before a ground ball to third was fielded by Johnson and thrown on to Akey for the final out, sending the Rangers to the championship game.
 

 
UP NEXT FOR THE RANGERS
