GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Parkside track & field team kicked off the 2023 GLIAC Outdoor Championships at Davenport University on Wednesday. Junior Jared Furman was the lone Ranger to compete on Day 1, representing Parkside in the decathlon.

Furman opened the day with a second-finish in the 100m dash segment of the decathlon, running 11.21 and scoring an impressive 814 points. Next came the long jump, where Furman placed fourth with a mark of 5.83 meters. He then bounced back with the shot put, winning the event with a throw of 11.55 meters and scoring 579 points. In the high jump, Furman cleared 1.72 meters and earned a second-place finish in the event. He would then end the day in the 400m portion of the decathlon, cruising to a victory in 52.28 and scoring 713 points.

After the first day of the decathlon, Furman sits in second place with 3,216 points. He will start Day 2 with a 70-point hill to climb as he looks to chase down the leader, Bryce Albrecht of Davenport.
