Grand Rapids, MI - The Parkside Rangers completed the weekend by facing the Davenport Panthers. After battling in five sets the day before, the Rangers fought back and defeated Davenport in another five-set match on Saturday.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
Parkside came out of the gates firing in the opening set. Cayla Gutche helped set the tone recording back-to-back aces within the first three points. Sam Fisch and Ava Irvin both combined for timely kills throughout the set. As a team, the Rangers swung an impressive .294 and stole the first set 25-16.
After Davenport took both sets two and three, the Rangers had their backs against the wall trailing two sets to one. The team rallied back thanks to some stellar defense. Parkside held Davenport to an attack percentage of just .022, the lowest in one set by any team in the match. Natalie Harris and Karlee Lois were all over the place and defended at an elite level. The two combined for 38 digs and Parkside won the fourth set 25-20.
Elizabeth Truckenbrod put on a clinic in the fifth set. She opened the race to 15 with three kills within Parkside's first four points. She finished with four total in the set and 13 in the game. Ava Irvin and Mariena Coon picked up the pieces and helped Parkside hang on as they combined for five kills in the set. Truckenbrod put the finishing touches on a come-from-behind victory.
The Rangers advanced to 17-10 overall, and 11-5 in GLIAC play. The team sits in third place as the regular season wraps up next weekend. Parkside returns to action on Friday against Wayne State in Detroit, Michigan. For coverage, visit ParksideRangers.com.
