Parkside Falls to UMSL in Maryville Thanksgiving Classic

St. Louis, MO - Fresh off the HARIBO Invitational, the Parkside Rangers hit the road for the 2023 Maryville Thanksgiving Classic. In their first of two games, Parkside was slated to clash with the University of Missouri - St. Louis on Tuesday. In a rematch of the first round of the NCAA Tournament from a year ago, Parkside fell to Missouri - St. Louis 62-57.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Josiah Palmer finished with 20 points, 15 of them came in the second half

  • Colin O'Rourke recorded a season-high 12 points, while also collecting eight rebounds which led the team

  • Rokas Castillo recorded his second game with five assists

Parkside was forced into distress from the tip and played an uphill battle from the get-go. Missouri - St. Louis grabbed the lead and held onto it throughout the entire half. Parkside received solid offensive production from Nick Brown, who began the game with five early points. Jack Rose helped Parkside remain close, leading the way with seven first-half points and knocking down two triples. Missouri - St. Louis played hard on both the offensive and defensive sides; the team shot 48% in the first half and held Parkside under 40% as a team. However, Josiah Palmer ended the half with a three-point buzzer-beater, sending Parkside into the half with some momentum.

Despite a big second half from Josiah Palmer, Parkside was unable to keep up with Missouri - St. Louis. They were prolific from the field, firing at a 59% clip in the second half. On the other hand, Parkside shot 1-11 from three-point range in the half alone. Missouri - St. Louis never gave up the lead, held strong, and handed Parkside their third consecutive loss.

The Parkside Rangers will look to rebound in their second and final contest of the Maryville Thanksgiving Classic tomorrow against Maryville University. This is the first time since 2018 the programs will clash and the contest will begin at 1:00 pm. For coverage of the event, visit ParksideRangers.com.
