Bolger's Goal Sends Parkside to GLIAC Championship Match

MARQUETTE, Mich. -- The Parkside women's soccer team played in the GLIAC Semifinal match against the Grand Valley State Lakers. The Rangers entered the match after downing the third seeded Michigan Tech Huskies 2-1 on Monday. The Rangers rode the same momentum into Friday afternoon's cold and wet match knocking off the No. 2 seeded Lakers.

"Incredible performance today against a great opponent. We are playing some of our best soccer now at the best time of year. Izzy was outstanding in goal and the team energy and willingness to do the work got us a huge win," stated head coach Brittany Nikolic.

Inside the Box Score
  • Alexis Bolger scores her fourth goal and second game winner of the season.
  • Izzy Guyer was a brick wall for the Rangers. The senior keeper tied her season high for saves with 11.
  • Guyer and company pick up their fifth clean sheet on the year.
  • The Rangers top the Lakers for just the second time in program history.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers got the goal they needed in the 19th minute of play. A free kick taken by Alair Posard was played on by Ally Francisco. Alexis Bolger converted the sliding shot to put the Rangers up 1-0. Posard and Francisco both get credit for the assist on the goal.

The Rangers defense held strong facing 15 shots in the second half, none of which found the back of the net. The 1-0 scoreline would hold true until the final whistle blew.

The Rangers now advance to the program's first GLIAC championship match. Parkside will face either No. 1 Northern Michigan or No. 5 Ferris State on Sunday in Marquette. The championship match is set to kickoff at 1 p.m. EST from NMU FIeld.
