KENOSHA, Wis - The Parkside Rangers hosted the Ferris State Bulldogs on Friday night at De Simone Arena. The Rangers brought the thunder and handed the 16th ranked Bulldogs their first conference loss of the season.

The Rangers made a statement right off the bat taking the first set from the Bulldogs. It was a back-and-fourth set that consisted of 15 tied scores and six lead changes. Elizabeth Truckenbrod had it working in the first set, she notched six kills and led the way. In the end, the Rangers prevailed and won the set 25-22.
After dominating the second set, nothing stopped the Rangers from roaring back. Ava Irvin started to heat up and there was nothing that would stop her all night. After six kills in the second set, she followed up with seven more in the third set. Another hectic and chaotic set, but the Rangers found themselves on top again. The team attacked at a .308 clip and won the set 26-24.
Parkside was on the doorstep on closing the match in the fourth set, but felt the pressure of the 16th best team in the country. Sam Fisch got it going, she recorded five kills and so did Irvin in the set. The Rangers were defeated in the fourth set 26-24 and were forced into a fifth set.
This was the first time the Rangers played in the fifth set at home all season. It was once again the Ava Irvin show. She tallied four kills and looked unstoppable, Ava finished with a .368 attacking percentage. Mariena Coon put the icing on the cake with an emphatic kill to end the long marathon of a match. The Rangers won the final set 15-12.
The offense was orchestrated by Karlee Lois, the junior set up her outside hitters all night long for success. The Rangers had five players in the double-digit dig category. Harris led the way with 29, Cayla Gutche 14, Sierra Marshall 12, and Lois and Truckenbrod had 10 each.
This was the first time since 2010 that the Rangers defeated the Bulldogs, and it was the first win for
Leigh Barea over a ranked opponent ever. The Rangers advanced to 14-9 overall and 8-4 in conference, standing alone in third place. The team will host Saginaw Valley State University at home tomorrow at 4:00 pm (CT). This will be the final home game of the regular season.
