The Parkside Volleyball team got its five-game homestand started off with a 3-0 sweep against the Warriors of Wayne State University on Friday in De Simone Arena.
GAME RECAP
The Rangers only trailed the Warriors on four separate occasions, two of which were 1-0 leads to start a set. Parkside's largest deficit the entire match was just three points.
The first set started with consistent trading of points until the Rangers broke off the 7-7 tie to go on a 12-4 run. With 12 kills and zero errors on 19 swings, the Rangers cruised to a first set victory. In the second set, the Rangers picked back up where they left off in the first set, taking a 5-1 lead. The Warriors came back with a run of their own and took a 13-10 lead before a Parkside timeout. Following the timeout, the Rangers took control of the game and took the second set 25-22 with the final point coming from a kill by senior Alysha Brickl. The third and final set was controlled by the service aces from sophomore Elizabeth Truckenbrod and freshmen Marisa Lootens. Consistent kills from freshman Mariena Coon helped the Rangers hold off a late push by the Warriors and win 25-20.
HEAR FROM COACH BAREA
"What a great team win! I am so proud of every single member of our team. It started on the bus home last weekend and the team taking ownership in practice this week leading up to this weekend. They were focused and determined while working together. Reese was lights out and Alysha and Karlee ran a great offense with other members of the team stepping into new roles and embracing them. Looking forward to building on this momentum for tomorrows match vs Grand Valley."
NOTEWORTHY STATS
Senior Reese Rossnagel led the Rangers in kills with 12, and Lootens added eight. The freshmen Lootens came into the match with zero aces in her young career, but took advantage of her first career start and finished with eight in the match. Truckenbrod had an impressive 13 digs while junior Karlee Lois had 18 assists.
