UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Parkside baseball team continued their weekend series with a doubleheader againt the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals. The Rangers got out to a solid start, with pitching a defense carrying the way to a victory in the first game of the day. The offense tried to hold on in game two, but the Cardinal offense had a late surge which led them to victory.

GAME 1 RECAP
The Cardinals jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, with Reed Raymond scoring on an error. The Rangers got on the board in the fourth inning with a RBI single from
Reece Homan, scoring
Hunter Weddel to tie the game at one.
Ryan Brouch scored later in the fourth on a sacrifice fly from
Noah Tyrrell, giving the Rangers a 2-1 lead. The Cardinals answered right back with an RBI single to tie the game 2-2. The Rangers took the lead again in the fifth inning with Weddel coming around to score again on an
Andrew Leair RBI single.

Caden Bronkhorst pitched a complete seven inning game, allowing just two runs on two hits with three strikeouts.

GAME 2 RECAP
Brouch opened up the scoring in the top of the third inning, as he grounded out to score
Kurt Mlachnik. The Cardinals answered back in the bottom half of the third with an RBI single to tie the game at 1-1. SVSU added three more runs in the fourth to jump out to a 4-1 lead.
Andrew Harris singled to score Leair and
Dominic Esposito in the sixth inning to bring the deficit down to 4-3. Saginaw pulled ahead again in the seventh, as three runners came around to score. Mlachnik was able to hit Leair home for another run in the eighth, but the Rangers could not rally back.

Nicholas Schouten was handed the loss after throwing 7.0 innings, allowing six earned runs, while striking out four batters.
Maguire Delagrave threw one shutout inning in relief.

The Rangers return to action tomorrow as they wrap up their series against Saginaw Valley State with a single game starting at 11 a.m. CST.
