UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Parkside baseball team ended their series against the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals with a single game on Sunday. The Rangers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but the Cardinals bats got hot in the third and fourth innings to pull away and take the finale of the four-game set.

GAMEÂ RECAP
Dominic Esposito got the Rangers on the board in the top of the first with an RBI double into left field, scoring
Hunter Weddel.
Ryan Brouch kept the early rally going with another double into left field, scoring Esposito and
Andrew Leair on the play to give the Rangers an early 3-0 lead. The Cardinals woke up in the third inning and put six runs on the scoreboard. They then followed up with a seven-run fourth inning, jumping out to a 13-3 lead. Brouch kept leading the way in the sixth, as he singled to bring in
Reece Homan.
Kurt Mlachnik later singled, and an error on the play allow Brouch to come around and score, narrowing the gap to 13-5. A triple in the bottom of the sixth would bring home two more runs for the Cardinals, increasing the lead back to 10 runs. In the top of the seventh inning, Esposito smacked a two-run homer over the left field wall to bring the deficit back within eight. A hit by pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh would allow the Cardinals to tack on one more run, making the score 16-7. The Rangers gained some momentum in the eighth inning, as
Jared Heinzen doubled to left field and Mlachnik and
Bryce Inman came around to score the final runs of the game, as the Rangers fell in the finale 16-9.

A LOOK AT THE BOX SCORE
Brouch stayed hot, going 3-5 with a run and three RBIs. Esposito hit his third home run of the season while going 2-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Heinzen went 2-2 off the bench with two RBIs on the day. Mlachnik went 2-4 with a run scored and an RBI.

Phillip Harper was handed the loss, going just 2.1 innings and allowing five earned runs.
Kaleb Schulist pitched 1.1 innings in relief and recorded four strikeouts.

The Rangers travel to Detroit for a doubleheader against Wayne State on Tuesday, April 5, beginning at 12 p.m. CST. These games were previously scheduled to be played on March 25, but were postponed due to unplayable conditions.
