Softball Closes out Long Week with Pair of Losses to Northwood

The Parkside softball team suffered a pair of road losses on Sunday afternoon at Northwood to finish out a long week for the Rangers filled with road games. They'll stay on the road the rest of this week for four more doubleheaders before returning home to face PNW on Tuesday, April 19.
 
GAME 1 RECAP
The Rangers took the early lead over the home Timberwolves in game one, as Taylor Delgado brought in Dani Evans with an RBI single in the top of the second inning and freshman Tia Livernash hit a 2-run single to score Delgado and freshman Rylee Baetz, making it 3-0 Parkside.
 
Northwood followed that with nine straight unanswered runs in the third and fourth innings however, and Parkside couldn't mount a comeback. They did add one final run in the top of the ninth thanks to a Jadynn Powell RBI single.
 
Livernash went 2-for-4 with two RBI while Delgado went 1-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Evans went 1-for-2 with a run while drawing a walk while redshirt-senior Alyssa Laxson drew a pair of walks.
 
GAME 2 RECAP
The Timberwolves jumped on the Rangers early in game two, scoring two in the first and one in the second to take a 3-0 lead. The Rangers scored their only run in the top of the third thanks to a Livernash RBI single up the middle to plate junior Tai Gonzales. Northwood was able to add two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
 
Livernash went 2-for-4 with an RBI while the Rangers finished with six hits as a team. Delgado went 1-for-2 and drew a pair of walks in the leadoff spot and Gonzales finished 1-for-3 with a run. Redshirt-senior Kiley Akey suffered the loss in game two, pitching 6.0 innings allowing five runs (three earned) with seven walks.
 
ON DECK
Parkside will hit the road for four straight doubleheaders this week, starting with Lewis on Tuesday, April 12. They'll face Davenport (April 13), Wayne State (April 15) and Saginaw Valley State (April 16) before coming home to face PNW on April 19.
