Rangers Fall in OT to Winona State

Winona State 75, Parkside 74 (OT)
The Parkside men's basketball team hosted the Winona State Warriors in their first game of the HARIBO Invitational. The Warriors got off to a hot start in the opening ten minutes, but the Rangers battled back and ran with the Warriors the rest of the way. The game went to overtime and the Warriors found a way to sneak away with a slim victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Warriors used a 7-0 run to jump out to a 23-14 lead in the opening ten minutes. The Rangers quickly battled back with Rasheed Bello scoring 12 points and Jamir Simpson scoring 13 in the half to give the Rangers a 37-35 lead.



The Rangers shot an impressive 46.2% (6-13) from behind the three-point line in the first half. They shot 60.9% (16-23) from the field. Winona State finished the half shooting 44.1% (15-34) from the field and 42.9% (3-7) from behind the three-point line.



The two teams battled back and forth to start the second half. Javon Johnson led the Rangers with seven points in the opening seven minutes of the half.



The Rangers went cold in the middle of the second half, shooting just 31.3% after 13 minutes of play. Despite the low percentage, the Warriors could not find a way to build a lead in that time.



The Rangers and the Warriors found themselves in a 63-63 tie with four minutes left. The Warriors went on a 7-0 run to lead 70-63 with just 1:50 left on the clock.
An open three from Josiah Palmer brought the Rangers back within four. Simson drained a layup to make it a two-point game. With 15 seconds left on the clock, Bello stole the ball and drained a layup to tie the game with 10.5 left on the clock. The game would proceed into overtime.

The Warriors went on to outscore the Rangers in OT 5-4 and came away with a 75-74 win.

A LOOK AT THE BOX SCORE
Simpson ended the night with 23 points, five rebounds and two assists. Bello ended with 22 points, five rebounds, and five assists. Johnson ended with 12 points, three rebounds, and one assist. Connor Dillon led the Warriors with 21 points.
