Rangers Fall in Five Sets to Purdue Northwest

The Parkside Rangers Volleyball team fell to the Pride of Purdue Northwest in five sets on Tuesday in Hammond, Ind.
 
MATCH RECAP
The Rangers got off to a hot start early in the first set by leading 7-4 until a 9-0 comeback by the Pride struck the Rangers. Parkside was able to put together a comeback of their own and got the set back within striking distance. The Pride were dominant behind the service line in the first set and take a one set lead after a 25-22 first set. The second set remained a close battle once the green and white fought back from a 12-6 deficit to take set two by a score of 25-20. The momentum swing came on eight straight serves from junior Cayla Gutche. The third set was a back-and-forth affair as the Rangers were able to hold off a late push from Purdue Northwest to now take the lead after a 25-22 third set. The wealth was spread in the third set with kills from senior Reese Rossnagel, Lexi Packard, Alysha Brickl, and freshman Mariena Coon. The Pride took over the momentum in the fourth set and sent the match to five sets after winning the set 25-14. In the final set, neither team held a lead larger than three points but the Pride won the final two points to break the 13-13 tie and win the match in the fifth set, 15-13.
 
NOTEWORTHY STATS
Rossnagel led the Rangers in kills with 21 and Bradshaw sets a new season high in kills with 7. Gutche had 5 aces which led the Rangers. Packard had 3 blocks and Brickl totaled 41 assists.

The Rangers will return home to face the Lake Superior State Lakers on Alumni Day in De Simone Arena on Friday, Oct. 28th at 5 p.m.
