Baseball Drops Two at Purdue Northwest

GAME 1: Purdue Northwest 10, Parkside 0
GAME 2: Purdue Northwest 20, Parkside 9

The Parkside baseball team opened their series on the road against Purdue Northwest this afternoon, but came away with two losses. They'll finish out the three-game trip tomorrow at noon.

GAME 1 RECAP
The Pride earned the lead in the bottom of the second with a two-run home run. The Rangers struggled to reach base until the fourth inning when senior Hunter Weddel walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Senior Austin Emanuel tallied the first Parkside hit of the game, with a single to right field to advance Weddel to third. However, the Rangers could not bring him in to score. Purdue Northwest tacked on two more in the third, and six in the sixth, while also holding Parkside scoreless through the seven innings.

Emanuel went 2-for-3 while Bryce Brogni and Carlos Arteaga each recorded a hit. Senior Aaron Cusimano started on the bump and suffered the loss in game one.

GAME 2 RECAP
Purdue Northwest came out hot scoring 11 runs in the first three innings. The Rangers' first run came in the top of the fourth on a solo homerun from senior Dominic Esposito. Parkside then rallied in the fifth, scoring 5 runs. Weddel hit a double that scored Brogni, senior Casey Oliver singled to score Weddel and Kurt Mlachnik, Arteaga singled to score Oliver, and Brogni singled to score Arteaga and Esposito.

The Pride tacked on six more runs in the fifth to extend their lead to 17-7. Emanuel answered back in the top of the sixth with a two-run home run, but unfortunately, those runs were the last from the Ranger offense.

Brogni led the way offensively, going 3-for-4 with two RBI's. Sophomore Sean Sodaro started game two and took the loss.
