Volleyball Earns Comeback Win over Wayne State

Parkside 3, Wayne State 2 | 15-25, 16-25, 25-21, 25-19, 15-13
The Parkside volleyball team was down 2-0 to start Friday night's match at Wayne State, but the Rangers battled back and earned the comeback 3-2 win over the Warriors.

HEAR FROM COACH BAREA
"I am so proud of the fight and focus this team had tonight," third year head coach Leigh Barea said. "They have been fighting and battling all season long, and tonight it paid off. Lindsay Krznarich and Cayla Gutche stepped up huge and did exactly what we needed them to do. We are ready to continue to build off it."

HOW IT HAPPENED
After the Warriors went up 2-0 after two easy sets over the Rangers, the match looked all but over. Parkside battled back however, coming back from being down 18-15 in the third set to earn a win. Parkside trailed 21-20, but won the last five points of the match, including a kill by senior Rachel Hedman to clinch the win.

In the fourth set, Parkside went up 5-0 early on and never trailed in the set. Wayne State made it close, bringing it to 21-18, but Parkside won four of the last five points to tie the match up at 2-2.

In the fifth set, the set was tied up at 12-12, and Parkside went on to win three of the final four points. Sophomore Alysha Brickl had a clutch set attack for a kill and the Rangers ended it with kills by junior Jazmine Neal and sophomore Reese Rossnagel.

STATWORTHY
Rossnagel led the way with 12 kills for the Rangers, while Neal and Hedman each had 11. Neal led the way with 5.0 blocks while junior Jessie Bradshaw had 4.0 and sophomore Hallie McGuire had 3.0. Brickl had a team-high 34 assists and sophomore Kaylee Kuecker had 20 digs.

WHAT'S NEXT
Parkside will battle Wayne State again at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The Rangers will battle Purdue Northwest on Friday, March 19 at 7 p.m.
