Softball Falls 6-5 in Final Game at Rosemont

The Parkside softball team dropped its final game at the Rosemont Dome on Sunday morning to William Jewell­, as the Cardinals were able to break the 5-5 tie in the top of the seventh inning. The Rangers finished out the first weekend 3-2 after starting 3-0 for the first time since 2006. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless first inning, the Rangers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning after sophomore Alex Wooten and senior Allison Hausl both scored on a passed ball on the same batter. Sophomore Taylor Delgado brought in Dani Evans with an RBI single.
 
In the third inning, Wooten hit her second straight double, this one scoring senior Jessica Miklos to make it 4-0 Rangers. WJ made it 4-1 in the fourth, then hit a grand slam in the fifth to make it 5-4. Parkside was able to tie it up in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a Maegan Brookins RBI single that plated Wooten. The Cardinals scored the winning run in the top of the seventh inning after leading the inning off with a double.
 
STATWORTHY
Wooten finished 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs while Miklos went 2-for-4 with one run. Taylor Delgado went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Hausl finished 1-for-3 with a double. Brookins went 1-for-3
 
Hausl started the game and went 3.0 innings, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Tijanne Ross suffered the loss, going 3.0 innings allowing three runs on four hits with three strikeouts.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
Parkside will take next weekend off before heading south to face Lindenwood on Friday, March 5. They'll also battle Maryville on Saturday, March 6 and Sunday, March 7.
