Women's Basketball Cruises Past Lake Superior State

2/20/2021 5:36:00 PM

Box Score Parkside 68, Lake Superior State 54
The Parkside women's basketball team triumphed in their first matchup against Lake Superior State on Saturday thanks to a balanced scoring effort led by junior Courtney Schoenbeck, who in her first Parkside start finished with 12 points and seven rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers controlled the contest from the outset after grabbing a 14-4 lead in the first six minutes of the game. They built on that lead over the next ten minutes, and led by 15 after a made layup from senior Alexis Vaughn with 4:06 left in the second quarter. However, the Lakers did a good job closing out the half, finishing with an 8-1 run to bring Parkside's lead to just eight at the half.

Out of the break, the Lakers were able to cut the Ranger lead to six, but that was as close as they would get. Back-to-back jumpers from junior Alyssa Nelson and sophomore Maja Leidefors started a 13-5 run down the stretch of the third quarter that essentially closed out the game.
