KENOSHA, Wis. - It's been 348 days since the Parkside softball team last played a game, but you wouldn't have been able to tell, as the Rangers opened the 2021 season with two wins at the Rosemont Dome in Rosemont, Ill. The team got a stellar pitching performance in game one from senior
Allison Hausl, who held Quincy scoreless in a 1-0 win, and game two saw the Green & White's bats come alive, scoring 10 runs en route to a 10-3 win over Ursuline.
Â
GAME 1: Parkside 1, Quincy 0
Parkside threatened in the first, when a single from senior
Alyssa Laxson gave sophomore
Taylor Delgado an opportunity to score from second, but a good throw from center kept the Rangers off the board. Neither team threatened to score again until the bottom of the sixth when Parkside broke the deadlock thanks to an RBI single from senior
Jessica Miklos that scored senior
Cassidy Prucha.
Â
Holding that 1-0 lead, Hausl stepped back up on the bump to close out the game in the top of the seventh. After a leadoff walk, and sac bunt, the Hawks had a runner on second with one out. That's when a single to right from Quincy's Ashley Poore looked like it would tie the game, but a good relay from the Rangers cut the runner down at home to preserve the lead. Hausl got the next batter to ground out, and the Rangers secured their first win of the year.
Â
GAME 2: Parkside 10, Ursuline 3
The bats came alive right away in the first inning when a one-out home run from sophomore
Dani Evans gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead. They doubled that lead a couple batters later when a senior
Morgan Moore hit a single through the left side that scored graduate student
Megan Aliverti. Ursuline responded in the bottom half of the frame, and cut the lead in half thanks to a three-hit, one-run inning.
Â
In the top of the second, Evans extended the Ranger lead when she homered once again, this time a two-run shot that brought home sophomore
Taylor Delgado.
Â
The game busted open in the top of the sixth where Parkside scored five runs on three hits, putting them up 10-1. Ursuline responded with two runs in the bottom half of the frame, but that was all they could muster against the Ranger pitching staff. Senior
Tijanne Ross got the win for Parkside in game two.
