Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Splits Day Two at Rosemont Dome

KENOSHA, Wis. – Day two at the Rosemont dome was a mixed bag for the Parkside softball team. A third homer in three games from sophomore Dani Evans propelled the Rangers in their first game over Upper Iowa, 5-3. Game two didn't go as well, as the Parkside offense was shutout in a 7-0 loss to Lindenwood.

GAME 1: Parkside 5, Upper Iowa 3
The Rangers were able to jump out to a lead in the first inning thanks to a home run from Evans, her third in three games. In the second inning, they added two more onto their lead thanks to a passed ball and RBI double from Evans. Upper Iowa responded in the top of the third with a three-hit, two-run frame to bring the game back to within one run. That 3-2 score remained until the top of the fifth when a bases loaded fielder's choice saw the Peackocks tie the game at three all.

That score stood for less than half an inning before an Alyssa Laxson RBI scored senior Maegan Brookins to take give Parkside a 4-3 lead. That run proved to be all the run support that starter Kiley Akey needed, as she shut down the Upper Iowa offense in the last two frames and notched the complete-game win.

Evans finished the game 2-for-4 with a home run and a double, as well as two RBI. Sophomore Taylor Delgado was the other Ranger with multiple hits, finishing the contest 2-for-4 with a run scored. The win moved the Green & White to 3-0 on the year, which was the best start to a season since 2006.

GAME 2: Lindenwood 7, Parkside 0
Parkside had runners on base in four of the first five innings, but just couldn't find the big hit to bring them home in any of them. On the flip side, Lindenwood found those hits in the second, fifth, and sixth innings. Despite only having seven hits in the game to the Rangers' five, the Lions scored two runs in the second, three runs in the fifth, and two runs in the sixth.

Brookins was the only Ranger with multiple hits in the game, going 2-for-3 with two singles. Senior Cassidy Prucha got the start, and loss in game two, and senior Tijanne Ross pitched the final 0.2 innings.

WHAT'S NEXT
Parkside will have a day off, then close out the weekend at Rosemont on Sunday, Feb. 21 at 10 a.m., against William Jewell. After, the team will travel to Lindenwood on Friday, March 5 for a doubleheader at noon and 2 p.m.
