Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Drops Hard-Fought Game to Wayne State

Wayne State 63, Parkside 60
Parkside men's basketball had a chance to send the game to overtime, but couldn't connect on any last second shot attempts as the visiting Warriors earned the win over the Rangers on Saturday afternoon in De Simone Gymnasium.

Parkside fell to 8-5 overall while Wayne State improved to 8-4 this season. Coming into this game, Parkside was No. 1 in the GLIAC Standings while Wayne State was No. 2 after Michigan Tech was swept by Davenport this weekend.

DOWN THE STRETCH
In the final :09-seconds, Parkside missed three straight game-tying 3-point field goals, including a Brandon Hau shot with 0.4-seconds remaining. Parkside kept it close in the final minutes, getting it to a one-possession game on multiple occasions but couldn't get that one big shot they needed. The Rangers trailed by as many as 10 points, and never led in the second half.

STATWORTHY
Freshman Colin O'Rourke led the Rangers with 15 points and went 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Hau finished with 12 points while freshman Josiah Palmer chipped in 12 off the bench. Senior Ramar Evans had nine points and four assists. Sophomore Solomon Oraegbu finished with a game-high eight rebounds.

Wayne State's Brailen Neely had 25 points and eight assists as the Warriors shot 27-of-50 (54%) and the Rangers went 23-of-59 (39%). Parkside went -1 in rebounding and +3 in the turnover battle, but Wayne State just shot too well for the Rangers to overcome.

 WHAT'S NEXT
Parkside will host Purdue Northwest on Tuesday night in De Simone Gymnasium at 7 p.m. before making the long trip north over the weekend to face Lake Superior State.
