Box Score Parkside 76, Lake Superior State 56
The Parkside women's basketball team kicked off GLIAC play with a trip to Lake Superior State to take on the Lakers. The Rangers got off to a hot start early, and used the momentum to come away with a blow out win to open conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers jumped out on top early with a commanding 20-5 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lakers woke up in the second quarter and cut their deficit down to nine points as they went to halftime. The Rangers took off like a rocket to start the third quarter, as they went on a 14-0 run to start the second half and held a 28-point lead as they went into the fourth. The Rangers were able to get some playing time for their bench reserves in the fourth and the Rangers sealed up a win on the road.
HEAR FROM COACH CONELY
"It is great to start league play with a win on the road. I thought our defense set the tone at the beginning of each half. We made it difficult for them to score and the created flow and movement on the offensive end. I really liked our offensive balance- Five people working together for a great shot on every possession. We need to be more consistent with it and we will need to play 40 minutes of Parkside basketball in order to get another win on the road Saturday."
A LOOK AT THE BOX SCORE
The Rangers shot 50% from the field, while holding the Lakers to a shooting percentage of 34%. Although the Lakers out rebounded the Rangers 29-26, the Rangers ability to share the ball was a key factor, as the Rangers totaled 12 assists to the Lakers 5.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Rangers will head to Ferris State on Saturday, Dec. 4, for a matchup against the Bulldogs at 1:30 p.m. The Rangers will return to De Simone on Dec. 9 as they host Davenport.
