Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Ends Holiday Hoops Classic with Loss to MSU Billings

MSU Billings 72, Parkside 58
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Parkside women's basketball team played their final game in the Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic on Saturday, as they took on the MSU Billings Yellowjackets.  The Rangers held their own through most of the game, leading on several occasions, but it was the Yellowjackets who would pull away in the fourth quarter and come away with the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first quarter was back-and-forth for the full 10 minutes, with the Yellowjackets coming out with a 15-13 lead.  The second quarter was much of the same, as the largest lead of the half was five points in favor of MSU Billings.  The Rangers went into the half trailing 33-29.

The third quarter was one filled with momentum swings.  The Yellowjackets would go on a run, then the Rangers would battle back.  The Rangers were on top after three quarters of play, with a 47-46 lead.  The lead did not last long, as the Yellowjackets opened the fourth quarter with a three pointer to take the lead and they never looked back.  The Rangers were outscored 26-11 in the fourth quarter, and were out rebounded in the quarter 15-5.

A LOOK AT THE BOX SCORE
Senior Alyssa Nelson carried the Rangers once again with 21 points, shooting 6-12 on the day.  The rest of the team struggled offensively, as Nelson was the only player with five or more shot attempts to have a shooting percentage over .350.  The team as a whole shot .328, which is under their season average of .446.  The Yellowjackets out rebounded the Rangers 49-25, with Kortney Nelson and Cariann Konkel both registering double-doubles on the day.

HEAR FROM COACH CONELY
"Disappointing loss today against MSU Billings.  It's tough to be up to start the fourth and let them take control of it to finish.  We lost their shooter three times and didn't rebound like we needed to in order to close the game.  Details matter and we have to do a better job of executing for 40 minutes."

WHAT'S NEXT
The Rangers will return to De Simone Arena on Jan. 1 as part of a New Year's Day doubleheader against the Purdue Northwest Pride.  For information on tickets for the Rangers next home game, as well as the rest of the season, visit parksiderangers.com/tickets.
